How long will exposed aggregate concrete last?

Updated: Oct 24

Exposed aggregate concrete is a decorative concrete finish. It’s the result of removing the top layer of cement off to expose the rocks, pebbles and shells that lay in the concrete beneath. While exposed concrete does cost more (due to additional process) than plain concrete, it delivers both decoration and function.

Beyond its contemporary appearance, one of the very appealing benefits of using exposed aggregate is its longevity. With the right care, exposed aggregate concrete can last you 10 – 20 years. Of course, it’s important to choose the right materials and concreter to ensure your concrete goes the distance.

At Arkonik Concreting, we use premium concrete products like Holcim Geostone – a product that adds sophistication to any project, ideal for a wide range of outdoor applications from pool surrounds to driveways and decorative outdoor features like floating stairs.

As an approved installer of Holcim Geostone exposed concrete products in Torquay, you can rest assured we keep to a high standard of finish and offer a good range of exposed concrete options for your all your outdoor concreting needs.

Why do we love exposed aggregate concrete?

Not only does it outperform plain concrete durability, but it also beats out natural stone. All the while looking beautiful and remaining wonderfully low maintenance and easy to clean.

Here’s our top 3 tips for cleaning:

  1. Clean it regularly A regular clean will help extend the lifespan of your driveway, keeping the nasties out. You can use a broom or leaf blower for a light clean to remove trapped dirt – or a medium pressure hose to deep clean your exposed concrete. We recommend once a week or as often as your heart desires.

  2. Remove oil and grease stains Use a driveway cleaning solution to break down any oil, grease stains or tyre marks. Simply follow pack instructions and use a stiff-bristled broom to help shift any stubborn stains from the concrete.

  3. Reseal every few years Exposed aggregate concrete typically only requires to be topped up with fresh sealer every 2 – 3 years. This will help it last literally decades and stay protected from stains and marks.

Exposed aggregate is an easy choice

(but what surface will you choose?)

Landing on exposed aggregate for your pool area or driveway will be the easy choice. Deciding on one of the many beautiful stone combinations is the tricky part! With Holcim Geostone offering a wide range of colours, styles, sizes and shapes, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Worry not, at Arkonik we carry a set of Geostone samples – giving you a clear visual of what might work best is easy. You can touch and hold the samples, hold them to the space, match them to your home or pool colours and of course, lean on our team for any expertise or suggestion of what might work best.
